'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the dramatic closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative effort from outside the box, and his teammate quickly hammered in the deflection before charging toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result sealed an unbelievable recovery given the team had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. Amid the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a fan shouting out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win booked a upcoming match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's long-range effort from about way out going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that far out," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right defensive wing after Orient changed formation. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they know how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can feel you're all right and then suddenly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and focus just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly done the same in south Wales. At the London club he linked up again with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without much intensity. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that development for his team and nation, shining for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches fixtures against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

This marks a remarkable path for the player from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

The player's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they competed on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was shut owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, another squad member, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to spend time with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on the Tube after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
